I am excited and nervous to post my story and share my ideas and knowledge with you. If you are reading this, you may know that I advertised, promoted, and talked about writing this blog post since the start of the new year. It was a goal for 2019. Talk about Procrastination, but it is always better late than never. Never give in to your fears or doubts. Everyone has a story to tell and knowledge to share. So, here it goes, my first JAC in a Blog post.
Who is Jennifer Castro? Well, some may say outgoing, while others may say shy and reserved. Both are correct. But, when I have something to say or find my tribe, I can talk for hours. If you ask my family, they will say, I never shut up. I bet my dad will agree when he reads this, ha! One of the very first questions I ask my clients so I can learn more about their personality, and what time of day they are most creative is, Are you an early bird or night owl? To me, this is important to learn. I am a night owl, which is when my creativity shines. While my husband is sleeping, (he is an early bird), I am studying my craft, and working on my best projects. And, while I sleep at 4 am, my husband is the early bird that catches the worm, getting ready to get his first workout in for the day. When I was younger, I always created a little spunk and attitude in everything. I found a way to make chemistry "cool" when I completed a project called "Gold with an Attitude." Yes, a science project about the periodic table, and I made it fun and interesting to the reader. You may be asking yourself, why is she telling me this. Because as I am still that spunky science geek, when I work with my clients, I find ways to make it fun, simple, and easy to understand. Why Did I become a Health Educator? Health has always been a struggle for me. My health issues started when I was around 14 years old. I remember being curled up in a ball, covered in vomit while I suffered from severe cramping. For years, being told this is normal because I was a woman. Can you believe the audacity of some doctors? I wish I could have lined them up and slapped some sense into them all. As I entered my twenties, I had enough of the suffering. I searched for doctors, specialists, and anyone that would listen to my symptoms, because being a woman and getting a period, was not a good enough explanation for me. Painful periods that confined me to my bed, crying, shaking, vomiting with blood everywhere. Warning, I make no apologies, if that is too graphic for some, but this is the reality for women who suffer from disorders such as endometriosis. I am only listing the bare minimum of symptoms (the list is long). When I did finally say, enough is enough, I was in college, barely making it out of bed each day. I finally took matters into my own hands by enrolling in medical courses and researching any information that I could find remotely resembling my symptoms. One night, as I was reading, I came across the medical term, endometriosis. I highlighted as much information possible, and as soon as the sun came up, I researched doctors in my area and made appointments. After sharing my research with multiple doctors, I found a specialist who agreed my symptoms were abnormal. I had a diagnostic surgery scheduled, and to make a long story short, I received a diagnosis of endometriosis, and three more complicated surgeries were necessary. I will later continue this story (this journey towards healing is long), but this is what lead me to want to enter a career in the medical and research field. Flash forward to the present, if you follow me on social media, you know that I recently shared my diagnosis of an inner ear imbalance called Meniere's Disease. I will share more details soon. I already have the title: Guess I wasn't a dizzy blonde after all. Returning to this post, Why did I decide to share my story. Simple, because I advocate for women who have health struggles and work with them so they too, can live their healthiest, happiest lives possible. If you would like to contact me to schedule a wellness consultation, click here to connect. My weekly blog will consist of personal stories, a glimpse of my husband, who is on his fitness journey as a Spartan athlete, to recipes, healthy hacks, fitness motivation, and much more. I will leave you with this quote, which I feel most describes me. Please share in the comment section one of your favorite quotes. " She has a gypsy soul and a warrior spirit. She makes no mistakes for her wild heart. She leaves ordinary and regular to explore the outskirts of magical and extraordinary."
